The strength of the gravitational forces that pull an object and
the Earth together is called the object's "weight".

On the surface of the Earth, the forces are approximately

(the mass of the object) x (9.8 m/s²) Newtons
or
(the mass of the object) x (32.2 feet per second) pounds .
