Simplify 2x^2 - y for x = 3 and y = -2.

x=3 \\ y=-2 \\ \\ \hbox{plug the values into the expression:} \\ 2x^2-y=2 * 3^2-(-2)=2 * 9 +2=18+2=\boxed{20}
