to help farmers cause railroad businesses were charging them to much and because they could help themselves by working together bc in that time it was hard for a farmer to profit causethey had more supply then demand and they couldn't afford their equipment or to feed their animals. another problem that the alliance wanted to address was that farmers had to purchase everything before knowing how their crops would turn out which would then allow them to pay back their loans
