C. prohibition.

The Eighteenth Amendment (XVIII) had put into place the Prohibition of alcohol in 1920. However, a majority of the nation resented this law, and the illegal production of alcohol continued for ten years. After 13 years, in 1933, the Twenty First Amendment (XXI) overturned it.
