Carbon dioxide and water are combined in a series of reactions.Sunlight provides energy for the reactions. The end result of photosynthesis is the production of sugars (glucose, a food) and oxygen (a gas). The energy from sunlight is stored in the glucose.

In photosynthesis, a plant takes carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to make Oxygen (O2) and sugar (C6H12O6). Every chemical equation needs energy, this is the sunlight's job, and chlorophyll in the plants uses the light energy to turn 6 Carbon Dioxide molecules and 6 Water molecules into 1 molecule of sugar, and 6 molecules of oxygen gas.
