you multiply 4 times x and you get 4x and then 4 times 2 equals 8 so the answer is 4x+8=36

Alright! In order to solve this problem you first have to divide both since by four (since it's the opposite of multiplying by 4):

(4(x+2))/(4) = (36)/(4)

And you're left with:

x + 2 = 9

Now you subtract 2 from both sides and you're left with:

x = 7.

To check it you simply plug in seven:

4(7 + 2) = 36
36 = 36 √
