We only see receivers of light because

A. light is absorbed by them.
B. light reflects off of them.
C. they give off their own light.

The answer is B.

You can not see light unless it shines on something else. The colors that you see in objects are the colors that are refracted from the material. If it absorbs the color then the waves won't transmit to your eyes.
