Earth is divided into 24 standard time zones because the different parts of Earth enter and exit daylight at different times. To compensate with this difference in daylight vs time at specific region time zones are created.
When the sun is at right over the equator it creates an equal half of daylight and darkness, this phenomenon is called as the “equinox”.
