The British government decided to make the American colonies pay a large share of the war debt from the French and Indian War. Through the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and other taxes, the British tried to collect taxes that the American people considered harsh.

Answer:

The causes of the American revolution are such as:

  • Changes in the relationship between Britain and the colonies caused by the French and the Indian war.
  • A rapid change in the British policy towards the Americans which was oppressive and humiliating for example Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Boston massacres and Intolerable Act.
  • An American desire to get Independence and oppose the British policy through political, social and economic means.
