Their chemical breakdown begins in the stomach and continues through the large intestine. Proteolytic enzymes, including trypsin and chymotrypsin, are secreted by the pancreas and cleave proteins into smaller peptides. Carboxypeptidase, a pancreatic brush border enzyme, splits one amino acid at a time.

The small intestine is a tubular structure within the abdominal cavity with main function to aid in digestion.

Chemical digestion occurs in small intestine through the action of enzymes. The chemical digestion that uses enzymes, bile acids etc. in order to break down food material into a form that can then be absorbed, then assimilated into the tissues of the body.
