How does fear influence the way people behave in act 2 of The Crucible?

In the crucible, fear causes the people to keep on accusing each other in order to try to save themselves. Fear is what drove the people in the Salem witch trials of being accused and fear of witches and the unknown. Obviously no one was a witch but people still died...
