How do scientific knowledge change over time? and what impact do these changes have on society?

As more and more evidence becomes available, theories can change (this is especially true in fields such as taxonomy) This can either inspire people to question more and become more open to different types of thoughts or drive people away from science all together due to its apparent instability. I like to believe it furthers society and helps us grow.
