Molecules must
collide with sufficient energy, known as the activation energy, so that chemical bonds can break. Molecules must
collide with the proper orientation but the likely hood of this is really rare.

The collision theory
explains that gas-phase chemical reactions occur when molecules collide
with sufficient kinetic energy. The
collision theory
is based on the kinetic
theory
of gases; therefore only dealing with gas-phase chemical reactions are dealt with.
Hope this helps!
