It can take about 10 years to get the oil to market after a discovery if it was large enough and remote. In spite of that, in Prudhoe Bay in northern Alaska, oil was discovered and it took around 70 years until the pipeline was completed, so that there are great variations in time according to different factors in which oil is found.
