In "Through the Tunnel," how would the story change if Doris Lessing had used the first-person narration of Jerry?

If the story was in first person narration it would be more personal giving you thoughts and personal experiences and more personal detail.

The reader would learn the individual thoughts of the local swimmers as they watched Jerry. The reader would be more confident of Jerry's survival because he would be the one telling the story. The reader would not be offered the personal thoughts of Jerry's mother. The reader would become a character in the story and more involved.
