I need help with math problem, 1/8 + 13/20

Make sure what you do to the bottom, you do to the top as well. Make sure that the denominator on both sides is equal to the denominator on the other side. To find a common denominator, you multiply each denominator by each other, for example; 8 x 13. Then, you do the same to the numerator. To the 1/8, multiply that side by 13 separately from the numerator and denominator. For the 13/20, multiply the numerator and denominator separately by 8.

First, to add 2 fractions, they must have the same denominator. To do so, multiply 1/8 by 5 and 13/20 by 2 to get 5/40+26/40. Now just add the numerators. the answer should be 31/40 :)
