What arguments would you use to justify calling the mitochondria the "powerhouse" of the cell?

A powerhouse is defined as an engine or other apparatus that provides power for a machine, building, etc. Sice the mitochandria produces ATP, or energy, for the plant it exists in, it is the organelle which produces the energy that powers the entire plant, thus making it the powerhouse.
