Although it may be true that male students often dominate class discussions, that isn't the case for every subject. Males tend to be more competitive and dominant when it comes to subjects such as math, history, science, whereas girls are more active when it comes to art and literature.
This is an overgeneralization, of course, but this tends to be the truth.
