Make sure your answer is in simplest form and improper fractions are expressed as mixed numbers.

A baker used 4 2/3 packages of raisins when he was making muffins.
Each package contained 5 1/4 pounds of raisins.
How many pounds of raisins did the baker use?

4 2/3 plus 5 1/4. First you must find the common denominator which is 12 because 3x4 is 12 and 4x3 is 12 next heat ever you do to the denominator you must do to the numerator so 1x3 is 3 and 4x2 is 8 so now you would get 4 3/12 plus 5 8/12 to get 9 11/12 so your answer is 9 11/12
