This can be titled as either "word choice" or "diction". Both of these refer to how the author uses specific words, language, or slang to set the mood of their writing piece.

Refers to the choice of words with specific meanings, and connotations, that helps the author communicate his or her tone

Diction is defined by the author's choice of words which create atmosphere and mood. Choosing the correct words changes the meaning, the context and it conveys different feelings to the reader. The way an author uses diction in a story gives him/her an individual style and voice.
