The estrogen and progesterone in birth control pills elevate the levels of these two hormones in the woman's body and copies her condition when she is pregnant. This inhibits FSH secretion by the pituitary gland and prevents follicles from maturing, as a result there is no egg available for fertilization and the woman cannot get pregnant.
