Polygamy is the practice of being married to more than one spouse at the same time. Even though polygamy has been taboo among christians and Western societies, several religions allow plural marriages. For different reasons, religions such as Islam and Mormon permit and used to permit polygamy, respectively. Supporters of polgamy say that this practice is a better alternative to adultery, which has been a common problem in Western cultures.
