Who were the Hebrews? How was the religious faith of the Hebrews different than most other people in ancient history?

Hebrews were a people of slavery.  They stayed that way for more than 40 years.  They wondered the desert in search of hope and finally found it in a man call Joshua.  Their faith never wavered.  They believed in God and nothing could change that.
