you are able to add multiply subtract and divide from both sides of the equation as long as you do it on both sides of the equation. so you want - 6 from both sides

84-6=6x+6-6

78=6x

and then you can divide both sides by 6

78/6 = 6x / 6

which equals

13 = x

So, you do the operations on both sides. Subtract 6 from each side first, getting
84-6=6x
which is 78=6x
then, you divide both sides by 6 and you get
78/6=x
which is 13

x=13

Hope this helped!
