f + m = 45
f = m - 17
(m - 17) + m = 45
2m - 17 = 45
2m = 45 + 17
2m = 62
m = 62/2
m = 31 <==== 31 males
f = m - 17
f = 31 - 17
f = 14 <=== 14 females
