Compare the words knit and gnome. how are they alike? how are they different?

Knit is to unite or cause to unite or also it means to make something usually out of wool by forming a network of the threads into such things as sweaters, toques etc. A gnome is a dwarfish being that guards the treasures of the earth underground, or a tiny unpleasant looking person, or or a person thought to have sinister effect, particularly in financial matters.I don't see how knit and gnome are alike and for sure they are different and refer to two quite different things.

I would say that knit and gnome are similar in that both words have a silent letter/sound: in knit, you don't read the K sound in the beginning, and in gnome, you don't read the G sound in the beginning. Other than that, I don't really see many similarities between those two words.
When it comes to differences, the obvious one is the meaning - they don't mean the same thing. Also, knit is a verb, whereas gnome is a noun. They are also spelled differently, because they are different words, and so on.
