Put the n on one side and the constants (numbers) on another side.
-4 = 5n + 6
Subtract 6 from each side
-10 = 5n
Divide both sides by 5
n = -2

First you need to leave the variable by itself.
-4=5n+6
-4-6=5n
-10=5n
