\displaystyle d= √((x_1-x_0)^2+(y_1-y_0)^2) - d is distance, (x_1,y_1) and (x_0,y_0) two points on a coordinate grid.

In our case :

(x_1,y_1)=(a,0)\\(x_0,y_0)=(0,5)

d= √((a-0)^2+(0-5)^2) = √(a^2+25)
