Marisol is painting on a piece of canvas that has an area of 180 square inches. The length of the painting is 11/4 times the width. What are the dimensions?

Well, you have
11/4*w^2=180 or
11w^2=720 or
w^2=65.4545. You have the square which is just above 64 square inches, so the width is about 8. The length is about 22. This approximation gives us 176 square inches. If we increase the two values a bit, you'd get 9*24.5=220.5 square inches, a bit too far for me!
