Looking through a collection of famous speeches to get ideas for your own short story is an example of freewriting.

Free writing constitutes a prewriting technique in which a person writes continuously for a set period of time without regard to spelling, grammar, or topic. Free writing is a technique writers use to generate ideas and make connections. Freewriting was developed by Peter Elbow in 1973, and is akin to brainstorming but is written in sentence and paragraph form without stopping.
