Hyp² = 1leg² + 2leg²

41² = 40² + 2leg²

leg² = 1681-1600

leg = √81

leg = 9

We will use the Pythagorean theorem:
c² = a² + b²
41² = 40² + b²
1681 = 1600 + b²
b² = 1681 - 1600
b² = 81
b = √ 81
b = 9 in
Answer: The length of the other leg is 9 inches.
