9 (p − 4) = 18
9p - 36 = 18
9p = 18 + 36
9p = 54
p = 54/9
p = 6

I am assuming you want to solve for p.

9(p - 4) = 18
Distributive property.
9p - 36 = 18
Add 36 to both sides.
9p = 54
Divide both sides by 9

p = 6
