A consumer document, generally speaking, is a document or paperwork given to consumers, as in buyers, users or the general public, to specify and clarify agreements, rights and/or responsibilities.

In those, asterisks serve to detail something said and boldfaced or highlighted texts are used to call attention.

Captions, on the other hand, are not usually used.
