you have to use foil to expand.
y(y-8) + 8 (y-8)
yy+y * -8+8(y-8)
yy+y * -8+ (8y+8 * -8)
then get rid of the ()
yy+y * -8+8y+8*-8
now you are going to combine like terms and simplify until you get this answer
y^2-64
