Opera is a music form which developed in the 1600s in Italy and spread to other countries in Europe. Opera was originally developed to revive the musical theater performances in ancient Greece, which people were interested in during the Renaissance. Opera is performed on a stage with singers and an orchestra usually located in front of or below the stage. The singers perform the written text which is called a libretto. Normally a composer works together with a librettist to create an opera work. The librettist writes the text for the story while the composer writes the music. Therefore, opera combines music with texts.
