Find the two points in your line. If the line is pointing up to the right the slope is positive (/) and if it is pointing up to the left it is negative (\).Then find the change in y and x or rise and the run. Ex. two points are (3,4) and (5,1). The change in x is -2 and the change in y is 3 so we put it as -3/2.
