why was Lincoln important.?

Lincoln was important because he was the one that led the united states to immediately defeat Confederacy. For that, he was remembered by millions of people he was made a statue in Washington D.C. They did that after he died by someone named John Wilkes Booth shot him while he was in the theaters with his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln on April 15, 1865.
