What was the solar system like when the moon formed?

It consisted of a few dozen of proto-planets and quite a lot of comet-like, icy, small stuff and bigger asteroids, much more than still exist today. Most of the dust and gas of the proto-planetary disk had already disappeared, blown away by the Sun when it ignited.
