How does Frank McCourt re-create the voice- the speaking style and viewpoint- of a 10-year-old boy in "Typhoid Fever"?

Frankie called Seamus "an old man of forty". Also, they are very short sentences, there are no question marks. It is informal speaking. The author did this to make the style of the writing like a child saying it.
