Strategic location was a major reason why Constantine moved his capital to Byzantium. It was easy to defend, it was surrounded by three sides of water. They had walls to protect from sea intruders and invasions and They stood as crossroads of Europe and Asia, and linked many trade routes from the west to the east. This aloud a major trading population, and made the city and some of its people very wealthy.
