The purpose for Separation of Powers, is so that one branch of government doesn't trump all and gain total power in the government system. This would be very dangerous, as it could result in the USA becoming a monarchy or a dictatorship.

the speration of powers therefore refers too the divison of goverment responsiblities into distinct branches to limit any one branch from exercising the core functions of another. The intent is to prevent the concentration of power and provide for checks and balances.
