I had a hard time answering this question as well... but I finally am able to say, I STILL DON´T KNOW THE ANSWER!

The energy released it not completely utilised nor wasted.. A part of this energy is used as work. then some amount is used again in the C3, Glycolysis.. and some energy is transferred for further organisms as in food chains..!!
