Why it is football player or not player football?

There isn't a reason for this - that's just how we write it in English.

Some other similar examples:
- Train driver
- Office worker
- Clothes maker

We could also say 'player of football', or 'driver of trains', etc., but saying 'football player', 'train driver' is easier. :)
