In the context of literature, what does "universal" mean?

An Idea which is huge
An idea which is "out of this world"
An idea which applies to all of us
An idea which only REALLY smart people can understand
An idea taught at university

* I believe a idea  which applies to all of us might be correct... I'm not sure..
