Here are the kinds of congressional powers as described in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution:
A. Elastic Clause: This is considered as the most significant clause which is also known as the "necessary and proper clause".
B. Collecting Taxes: The congress is given the power to collect and levy taxes.
C. Regulating Commerce
D. Other powers include establishing the rules of naturalization, patents and copyrights, post offices and coin money. In addition, the congress also possesses the power to constitute courts lower than the Supreme Court.
