x represents the number of legs. Horses have 4 in total while ducks have only 2.
2x+4x=36
6x=36
x=36/6
x=6
There are 6 ducks (6×2=12 legs) and 6 horses (6×4=24). 24+12=36 legs in total. So 12 animals all together.
