The place value chart can help us to write a number in expanded notation. When we put 4,305,012 into the place value chart, we can recognize that our number is equal to

4 millions + 3 hundred thousands + 0 ten thousands + 5 thousands + 0 hundreds + 1 ten + 2 units

4,000,000 + 300,000 + 5,000 + 10 + 2
When writing a number in expanded form you have to write out each number in it's value starting with the largest number. In this number the four has the most value, it is in the millions place so you must write it out as 4,000,000. Now you will add the next number in it's value which is 3, 3 is in the hundred thousands place, so you would write 300,000, you continue this until you get to the ones. Make sure you use a plus symbol between the numbers.
