A student says to round 763,400 to the nearest ten thousand,they will round 770,000.Is the student right explain

The student if definitely incorrect because you are rounding from the 3rd digit ( the 3 in 763,400) It is bellow 5, only numbers above 5 will round up.

no, 763,400 rounded to the nearest ten thousand is 760,000 because the digit in the thousands place value (3) is less than 5, so you underestimate
