Jet stream affects the path of hurricanes sometimes;Trade winds(one of the planetary winds) converge near the equator creating the inter tropical convergence zone(ITCZ) bringing lot of moisture from both the hemispheres.These winds are forced to rise creating large scale convection currents near the equator leading to more rainfall during most part of the year in these areas.
