The small 2 is called an exponent.
56 x
10^(2)
When exponents are used, they mean multiply that number that many times the exponent says. So right now it says
10^(2) which means 10 x 10 = 100
-Another Example:
3^(3) = 3 x 3 x 3 = 27
So now it's 56 x 100 = 5600
I hope this was understandable. :)
